Introduction

Some of the best design studios in Silicon Valley don't chase fame. They work quietly with carmakers, insurers and energy startups, designing the products and screens that people use without thinking. They stay small on purpose, so senior designers keep their hands on the work.

For companies that want that boutique attention with international reach, a studio with offices on three continents can be a rare find.

Daylight is a design studio founded in 2007, headquartered in San Francisco's Mission District, with offices in Munich and Seoul. It works across UX, visual, industrial and brand design, with experience in automotive and energy. Its clients include Hyundai, Lunar Energy, Swiss Life, Ebenbuild, Melon and the Blue Shield of California Foundation. It has fewer than 50 people and doesn't publish prices.

The Short Answer: Is Daylight Worth It?

Possibly, if you're an automotive, energy, insurance or health company that wants product, UX and brand design from a small, international studio. Public information is limited, so ask for detailed case studies and references first.

How I Wrote This Review

Disclosure: I design brands and websites, and my studio is in the alternatives table. Daylight also designs physical products and in-car experiences, which I don't, so our overlap is small.

I haven't hired Daylight. On November 1, 2026, I read its DesignRush profile and its listing with the iF design awards. I couldn't confirm its founders or read detailed case studies, so this review is shorter on specifics than most.

Who Is Daylight?

Daylight was founded in 2007 and is based at 375 Alabama Street in San Francisco, in the Mission District. It also has offices in Munich, Germany, registered as daylight design GmbH, and Seoul, South Korea. It has fewer than 49 people.

It works across UX design, visual design, industrial design and brand design. Its listed industries are automotive and energy and mining, and it mostly serves medium-sized businesses.

Its named clients include carmaker Hyundai, home energy company Lunar Energy, insurer Swiss Life, the Blue Shield of California Foundation, the Korean music platform Melon and Ebenbuild, a company working on digital models of human lungs. The mix of Korean, German and American clients matches its three offices.

The main catch

There's very little public detail about Daylight's founders, case studies or process. Its web traffic also comes largely from searches about daylight saving time, so its online footprint says little about its work. Ask for in-depth case studies and confirm which office would lead your project.

A worked example

Picture a home energy startup launching a battery and solar system. It needs the hardware to look good in a garage, the app to make energy data easy and a brand that feels trustworthy.

Daylight has worked with Lunar Energy and combines industrial, UX and brand design. A comparable project might design the unit's exterior, the app experience and the brand identity together. If I were that startup, I'd ask for the app to be tested with homeowners who aren't energy experts, since that's most of the market.

What Do Clients Say?

Daylight has a 5.0 rating from two Google reviews on DesignRush. The visible one, from 2023, praises "a great crew that we greatly enjoyed working with." That's too little to judge from.

Ask for two references from projects like yours, ideally one from the US and one from Europe or Korea. Questions worth asking: how senior the team was, how the offices collaborated and how the design held up once engineering started.

Is Daylight Legit?

It appears to be an established design studio with offices in three countries and clients like Hyundai and Swiss Life. Confirm its leadership and recent work directly.

My Honest Design Opinion

As a designer, I like studios that combine screens and objects. Products like cars and home batteries fail when the hardware and the app feel designed by different companies. A team that does both can avoid that gap.

I couldn't see its detailed work, so I'm not judging its style. My one tip: ask to see a product from sketch to shelf, including the compromises made along the way.
